Creating in the Craziness
It's been a crazy summer.
At the end of May, I graduated from Elon University in North Carolina. Less than a week later, I began my journey across the country to Colorado Springs, moving away from my family and girlfriend, to begin telling Young Life's brand story on social media.
In a span of three months, I've rented my first apartment, paid my first set of bills, spent a week in Arizona, become a WyldLife leader at a local middle school, sang a solo in my church choir, joined a poetry club, and recited my own poetry in front of a crowd for the first time.
However, even with all that, I felt a tugging on my heart to create a project that would tie together several of my passions, give people a platform to express themselves, and inspire others. Enter in: Car Window Poetry.
Car Window Poetry is in no way an original idea; there are plenty of influences I have to thank, such as Taylor Tippett and her "Words from the Window Seat" project, MyIntent, and Chance the Rapper's Open Mike Nights. Bringing these influences together, Car Window Poetry exists to help you make your mark on people's hearts by sharing your poems on car windows.
Car Window Poetry doesn't exist without you; therefore, I'm calling upon you to contribute your artistry to this project. If you have words of wonder and love to share, please submit your poetry to submit@carwindowpoetry.com.
I don't know what's going to come of this project, but my hope is that, in each person who receives a Car Window Poetry poem, it awakens a smile previously suppressed, creativity previously ignored, and wonder previously forgotten. I also hope you see yourself as the hero of this project, because you are. It's your words that are going to give someone who's hurting the courage to try again.
The world needs your words. Let's give 'em what they want!
