The Good Word Report: Three Small Girls Bring Light into my World
Introducing: The Good Word Report!
I come from a church background where you'll often hear people say, "That's a good word." Essentially, what they're saying is that whatever was spoken or read resonated with them. To give you a better look into how Car Window Poetry is impacting people across America, I'll be sharing some of those stories with you on the blog each week.
My hope is that you'll be inspired to continue covering your community with beauty and hope and see the love your simple act of kindness can spread through Car Window Poetry. Let's jump right in!
Last Friday, I received the following Facebook message from Amanda, a mom in Levittown, New York:
"I saw a post shared by Random Acts of Kindness about YOU and I wanted to reach out. I committed myself to complete a Random Act of Kindness every day for the entire year. It feels incredible and I can't wait to finish off the year strong. My passion came from my daughter, Gianna who was born with a heart defect and Down syndrome. She has inspired me to be a better person and so that has been my goal. I have been fortunate to have my son and nieces want to get involved as well. Which led me to sharing a video that featured you to them. They got so excited and jumped on the idea to run with your car window poetry... I wanted to share their video they asked I make. I LOVE YOUR PASSION!!! Thank you for being an incredible role model."
Here's the video that Amanda's daughter and nieces made:
You can't watch that video and hear those little girls' hearts and not smile. After I received Amanda's message, I immediately got in touch with her and requested to share the video. I was so inspired by (1) Amanda's willingness to create a culture of kindness in her own life, and (2) the way that culture has trickled down into the lives of those who are looking up to her.
Amanda has taken a difficult situation and created good out of it. 365 days of good, at that. Rather than pain being a prison in our lives, what if we looked at pain as a platform for positivity? Not only would our lives look brighter, but that light would illuminate the darkness or empty space in other people's lives and inspire them to consider how they can make a difference.
There are plenty of ways you can create a culture of kindness in your own life. Maybe it's completing a random act of kindness every day for a year, or maybe you just want to start with doing one a week. Either way, you are more than capable of bringing light into the lives of those around you, and I'd love to offer up Car Window Poetry as a platform for spreading love. Learn more about how you can get involved here!
Can't wait to share another good word with you next week! Also, be sure to catch Car Window Poetry on HLN's MichaeLA show tomorrow at the following times:
