Here I Fit

Last week, our friend Nicole Molkentin, editor-in-chief at Rauthenticity, shared a poem with us from her adventures in New Zealand. We asked her to share what that poem means to her in today's #HonestyHour post.

"I’ve been traveling for about six weeks now, and in two days I board a flight to come home. When I get back to America I have four months until I graduate from college. In the midst of senior year, I managed to put this immense pressure on myself to have my life figured out. Some of my friends are in relationships that they think will lead to marriage, some have had job offers for months, and some are continuing on to grad school.

Sometimes I convince myself that I need to have everything in my life figured out. I am single, I am not a business student, and I have no aspirations of continuing with higher education. If there was a post-grad checklist, I would maybe have half full. And then I arrived in New Zealand.

Surrounded by people figuring out their lives, everyone is in an ongoing self-love-project of expansion. And they are living the most extraordinary lives. They live with trial and error, travel and exploration, and follow their curiosities along the way. It reminded me that I don’t have to have everything figured out.

No matter what, I will do something. And if it doesn’t work out, then I will try something different. Nothing is permanent. I always have permission to change. Travel is constant change, and I am returning for my final semester with an overwhelming sense of peace, rather than societal pressures. And it feels really good.

Here I fit into the shifting axis of the world -- the shifting axis of my own, tiny, expanding, and constantly changing world."
