Recap: A Night to Write

Last night's first-ever Car Window Poetry event was AMAZING.

In my mind, we accomplished everything we set out to do. Local poets joined together, wrote poems together, and then we all went out into downtown Colorado Springs and covered our community with beauty and hope. Together.

One of my favorite moments from the night was walking around downtown and seeing rows of cars that already had poems on them. That was an incredibly surreal moment for me. This idea I had in the living room of my apartment was being contributed to and lived out by my friends, their friends, and some people I didn't even know.

There were two girls in particular I didn't know, and I spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure out how they learned about the event. At the end of the night, I asked them. It turns out they heard me talk about the event three weeks ago at a Hear Here open mic night and felt compelled to come check it out!

That's why I won't stop sharing the Car Window Poetry story and my heart behind it. People want to make a difference in their communities and in the lives of their neighbors. They want to use their words to give hurting humans hope and breathe life into dead dreams. I'm incredibly thankful Car Window Poetry can be an avenue for people to do that!

While I celebrate today, I'm back on the grind tomorrow. I'm so excited to see where Car Window Poetry goes and how it continues to grow. Please stay tuned for more updates. Also, thank you so much to everyone who came to the event last night, especially my friend Eva Rettig who helped capture some awesome video!

Much love.
