September 22nd: A Night to Write

I'm excited to announce that on Thursday, September 22nd from 6:30-7:30 PM, Car Window Poetry will host its first-ever event, A Night to Write, at Welcome Fellow in Colorado Springs. It will be a night of writing, connecting with local poets, and covering our community with beauty and hope!

I mean it when I say this is a dream come true for me. When I first moved across the country to Colorado Springs, not knowing where to find creative community really freaked me out. However, Welcome Fellow quickly became my catalyst for finding and diving deeper into that community in the Springs.

Welcome Fellow is a community workspace and venue located in downtown Colorado Springs. It intends to inspire and motivate by making space available for events, community and creative growth.

At one of the first events I ever attended at Welcome Fellow, part of a monthly lecture series called Connecting Things, I remember Mundi Ross, founder of Colorado Collective, saying, "Surround yourself with people who can help you make your dream a reality."

I didn't realize it in the moment, but, as I've made super talented friends in the Springs over the past few months, I've surrounded myself with people who are helping make Car Window Poetry not only a reality but a success.

One of those people is Jeremy Worley, a founder of Welcome Fellow. I reached out to Jeremy after the Connecting Things event because I wanted to learn more about how him and his friends created this space. We've since become friends, and coming into Welcome Fellow on Friday mornings before work to chat with Jeremy has become a weekly routine of mine.

While talking to Jeremy a few weeks back, I told him about my idea for Car Window Poetry. He not only liked it, but, to my surprise, he even wanted to open up Welcome Fellow for us to hold an event there. Let me tell you, to have someone you look up to believe in you like that is incredibly empowering.
